Koilighugar Waterfall - Lakhanpur-Belpahad-Jharsuguda- Odisha

Koilighugar Waterfall:

The Koilighugar water fall is situated 55 kilometer away from Jharsuguda in the Lakhanpur block near the village Kushmelbahal.  Koilighugar is one of the religious and tourist spot in Odisha. It is situated in between Sundergarh and Jharsuguda District and near to Chhatishgarh State.  It is situated near to State Highway 49 and 7kms from Gobindpur Chawk. You can also reach this place by going though from Sundergarh to Kanika, where from Kanika to 14kms south this place situated.  Koilighugar is recognizing as one of important tourist spot, its natural beauty is simply awesome. The sound of water flowing from springs of hill with that jungle beauty attracts visitors to this place. That’s why all year round visitors come to this place. Previously near to this place wild animals living here, but they never harm any people. They all drinking water from one place known as Shanti Kunda. In Rainy and Winter Season koilighugar looks awesome. The waterfall sound we can hear from 1km distance. Various springs of Hemgir Forest and nearest hill flows through koilighugar and here water falls from 40ft and make this waterfall one of the most beautiful waterfall of odisha. The water of Koili ghughur flows to Mahanadi River. Here is another attraction is the big size fish.  On the Upper side of waterfall, we can see various type of fish. Fishing is not allowed here. When tourist put foods on water, fish comes to surface of water; this scenery is an eye pleasure. In 1942, Sohan Swami Named one Baba comes to this place and he stayed here forever by seeing the beauty of this place and later he established an Ashram here. Currently 30-40 Sadhu Baba Living in this ashram. Here is a Vishnu Temple also present. Here in winter season a lots of peoples from various parts of odisha and Chhattisgarh come for picnic and this continue for March Month. Koilighugar is a shaivism place. In Maha Shiv Ratri, here annual fair also occurred. At that time, huge crowd gathering happens here. In this place a rest house is also present.  A rivulet named ‘Ahiraj’ takes origin from the ‘Chhuikhanch’ forest and while flowing through its rocky belt falls from a height of 40 ft. creating the water fall of Koilighugar.  After the fall the rivulet flows west wards to merge into the river ‘Mahanadi’. It is a picturesque beauty spot with its sylvan back drop.

Inside the fall there is a Shivalingam known as ‘Maheswarnath’. The lingam is submerged in water and not ordinarily visible.  If somebody tries to see it from inside the water in winter and summer the lingum is visible under the reflected sunlight, hence for the benefit of the pilgrims another Sivalingam has been created outside the waterfall.

There is an “Ashram’ of a holy man “Saham swami’ near the water fall. Every year a fair sits in Kalighugar on the occasion of Sivaratri.

The Koilighugar water fall , its exquisite scenic beauty , steeped untamed background forest fetches a larger chunk of tourist every year.

If you reach Belpahar and head straight towards National Highway 200, which is between Jharsuguda and Raigarh, You will reach Gobindpur which is around  20 km from Belpahar. Then you have to take a right trun from Govindpur Chowk . A 6 km drive from there through thick sal and mahua forests will take one to Koilighugar Waterfall.
