Baba Baneswar Temple - Bonaigarh- Bonai - Rourkela - Sundergarh

Baba Baneswar Temple:

Lord Baneswar Temple is situated in the Bank of River Brahmani. The river Brahmani flows northward caressing the Temple and making the place sacred to thousands of devotees from far and near.

This temple is more than 1000 years old. This temple name cames from a Demon Banasur. Banasur is a demon whose capital is Bonai. He is a famous Shavism. Once he please Lord Shiva and Lord Shiva gives a Linga of his Jyotirlinga (Kashi Biswanath).


Thus this Shiva Linga is named as per that demon. In Maha shivratri, lakhs of devotees come here. This is also a picnic spot of local people. But only vegeterian allowed here.


You can see a lot of 1000 years old scluptures inside temple premises. The main Shiva Linga is divided in 2 types, left side represents Shiva and right side represents Parvati (Shakti).
